Mario Abate

Production Director;
PSA Director;
Host of Planet Hell

Mario Abate is a Music & Sound Recording major at the University of New Haven. He's in love with all genres of music, but his forte stems from heavy metal and its sub genres. Some of his favorite bands include Metallica, Nightwish, Kamelot, Amberian Dawn, Blind Guardian, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, Rush and Iron Maiden. Mario is the production director and head of the production team at WNHU, as well as the PSA Director.

He's been at WNHU since February of 2008 with a show called Midnight Metal on Charger Radio, playing various metal from the 70s all the way up to the present. Mario was later asked to join the production team, headed by Brandon Chamberland. Upon Brandon's departure from WNHU, Mario took on the reigns of Production Director. As an engineer, Mario has done many services and projects as a way to better the station. Over the summer he had a show on Tuesdays on WNHU called "The Jungle", where he played all your favorite rock songs from the past 30 years as well as many fairly unknown bands. Currently Mario is hosting a show called "Planet Hell", which airs every Friday from 12-2am. Playing metal bands from across the water fom countries like Finland, Germany, Italy, England, etc.

88.7FM WNHU is the University of New Haven's non-commercial, official FCC-licensed FM radio station broadcasting live 24/7 from the basement of Maxcy Hall. Daily operations are maintained by a departmental general manager, student station managers and directors, and a staff comprised of undergraduate students, graduate students, community volunteers, and faculty members. WNHU's staff of DJs and radio personalities are comprised of both undergraduate students and community members.
